| Reality as inspiration: all manner of images and objects can leave an impression
and assume a shape in the form of jewelry. The goldsmith Dorothea Prühl, who
was born in 1937 in Breslau (today: Wroclaw), creates fundamental statements
in gold and silver – not to mention wood, aluminum, titanium and stainless
steel. Impressions, which manifest themselves in generous, clear objects. She
bases her work on what is available, senses its innermost being, its core and
imbues this being with a new aesthetic language –this can take the form of
a flower, the wind, a house… The jewelry itself therefore assumes essential
relevance and becomes at one the same time jewelry and an artistic statement.
Between 1994 and 2002 Dorothea Prühl was in charge of the jewelry class at Burg Giebichenstein Academy of Art and Design in Halle and ranks as one of the leading protagonists of the current jewelry scene. Works by Dorothea Prühl are also on display in the Jewelry room of the Neue Sammlung (the Danner Rotunda) in the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich. Introduction: Dr. Ellen Maurer-Zilioli
