For its outstanding design the exhibition "The Fat Booty
of Madness | Jewellery at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich: The Künzli
Class" has now received one of the most coveted design prizes
worldwide: the “red dot”. The quality label for sophisticated
and innovative design is awarded annually in the international competition “red
dot design award”. Exhibition concept: Professor Otto Kuenzli, Academy of Fine Arts, Munich The artists’ individuality was the focal point of the conceptual
installation. The assignment was to find space and create a sense of order
for the enormous number of over 1,300 exhibits by 80 artists in the 400-square
meter exhibition
hall. The solution took the form of a composition of 130 arbitrarily positioned
display cabinets of various origin, age, and character from 10 different
museums – “ready-made” display cabinets, unadulterated
with signs of use, in their historic authenticity. As such the heterogeneous
work groups of small individual pieces could each be allocated its own
spatial cosmos. Exhibition site: The Fat Booty of Madness | Jewellery at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich: The Künzli Class |
