Yonel Lebovici was inspired by a power plug when masterminding his Fiche Mâle luminaire. With a size of 36 centimeters in height and 70 centimeters in length, the industrial design luminaire is definitely larger than a normal mains plug. Moreover, the original is made of aluminum. Twenty years after working in aviation, Lebovici rediscovered this light and elegant material – and that selfsame year devised this luminaire. The twin rods that normally draw the power from the socket function here as the lamp’s glow rods. The cable leads to the power supply of the lighting source. The magnification, material, and reversed function defamiliarize this everyday object. In any given space, Fiche Mâle resembles a sculpture.
