For decades, Bakelite plastic played a key role in electrical appliances and likewise in cameras. The heyday of the material’s use came with the development of radio sets which, from the late 1920s, combined a receiver and a loudspeaker in a single device. With the help of the “Volksempfänger”, or “People's Receivers”, which went into mass production in 1933, the Nazis were able to deploy nationalized radio for their propaganda purposes.
