The poster shows a robot called Gundam. Gundam is very well known in Japan. He is from an animated series called Mobile Suit Gundam. The animated series exists since 1979.

There are many stories about Gundam in manga comics and as an animated series. Mangas are Japanese comic books. Comic books are magazines with drawings that tell the story.

There is also a model building series of Gundam. This means that you can build your own Gundam figure. The series is called Gunpla. Gundam is also in movies.

Since 2012, there is a large statue of Gundam. The statue is 11 meters tall. It is on a square in the Odaiba district in the city of Tokyo in Japan.

Gundam looks different on the poster than in the animated series. In the series Gundam is colorful and can be seen from all sides. On the poster, Gundam is only a grey shadow on a red background. This makes him look very large and mighty.

The poster was an advertisement for an exhibition in 1995. A group of important graphic designers organized the exhibition in Tokyo. The designer of the poster is Takuya Onuki. He used the Gundam robot as an example of the many new ideas from Japan. The poster showed how talented Japanese graphic designers are.

After 1990, other countries also had successful graphic designers.
