Günther von Pechmann was the first director of:
Die Neue Sammlung.
From 1926 onwards, he bought many objects
directly from the artists themselves.

That is why Die Neue Sammlung has many art works
by the German artist Marguerite Friedlaender.
She studied at the Bauhaus art school in
the city of Dessau in the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt.

In the years after 1926 she taught the ceramics workshop
at the University of Art and Design Burg Giebichenstein.
This school was in the city of Halle in
the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt.

Günther von Pechmann was later the director
of the Porcelain Manufactory in Berlin.
It belonged to the state.
A manufactory is a factory
where a lot of work is done by hand.
They only use few machines.
Marguerite Friedlaender designed
several porcelain objects for this factory.
