Bakelite is a type of plastic
that was invented in 1905.
Bakelite was used for electrical devices,
cameras and telephones.
Bakelite was a very well-known material for
the casing of radios.
The receiver and loudspeaker
were both included into the casing of the radios.
That was new at the time.
In 1933, Adolf Hitler and the Nazis took power in Germany.
They used radios for their political messages.
That is why they produced many radios.
These radios were called:
Volks-Empfänger.
That means:
people’s receiver.
