With its arrangement of four legs and its plastic carapace, the design of the robot toy is reminiscent of a spider-like animal, although spiders have twice as many legs. The regular layout of the legs means it can move directly in any direction. The large sensors on its head resemble animal eyes and feature an infrared transmitter and an infrared receiver. Thanks to them the robot can identify and scan its surroundings. Right next to the sensors there are two small circles of lights one over the other; while they can blink, they do not have any technical function as such.

Using its infrared sensor, the robot can orient itself in its surroundings and identify obstacles. By means of a remote unit, users can manually control the robot and set five different modes. These regulate how the robot responds to sounds and movement and how actively it should move. In addition, users can choose from up to 40 different programs and store these to memory in the desired sequence in which the Roboquad then performs them on command.
