In her early years as a designer, Paula Scher worked for the music industry. She designed record covers for Atlantic Records and CBS.
There are many styles of music, for example: Classical, Jazz, Pop or Rock. Paula Scher designed the record covers very differently for the different styles. She has developed her own way of working: Most of the time, someone took a picture or a photo for her. Then she designed a matching writing for it.
Paula Sher designed the cover for a record of the conductor Leonard Bernstein. She drew a coloured window like for a church. Someone then made a real glass window from her drawing. Then, she had someone photograph this glass window. She chose an old style of writing for the record cover. The style of writing was approximately from the time when the music was created. She designed the record cover with the photo and the writing.
