7. January 2026 Workshop [Re]Designing Food Practices
We have forgotten how to look at what is really necessary—and call it everyday life.
But when did consumption become the norm rather than a conscious decision, even when it comes to food?
And what happens when we question this very habit?
Together with the participants, design researchers Anna Reiser and Irem Sengöz explore how norms in the context of food practices develop and change over time. Food practices encompass the entire process from food shopping to preparation and consumption to the use of leftovers or disposal. In this context, participants playfully and experimentally identify their food practice type and learn how they can specifically develop their everyday eating habits.
Using the concept of “baseline nudging,” the participants reflect on their everyday practices relating to food and nutrition. A lively dialogue opens up opportunities for exchange and for developing new perspectives and resolutions for future everyday eating habits. This gives rise to ideas for a culture of sufficiency that sees conscious eating as a skill for the future.
The formate „[Re]Designing Practices“ was created as part of the master’s program Applied Design Reseach at Hochschule München University of Applied Sciences under supervision of Prof. Markus Frenzl, Prof. Matthias Edler-Golla and Prof. Dr. Eileen Mandir.
