From 1926, Günther Freiherr von Pechmann, as the first director of Die Neue Sammlung, acquired works directly from the manufacturers and designers. For this reason, the design museum owns a Larger set of works by ceramic artist Marguerite Friedlaender, who moved from the Bauhaus in 1926 to head the ceramics workshop at the Kunstgewerbeschule Burg Giebichenstein college of applied arts in Halle. A little later, Pechmann, as director of the State Porcelain Manufactory in Berlin, commissioned Friedlaender to design several items of porcelain.
